School Visits 9 - 10 Claflin University and South Carolina State University & Field Trip Dr Mays Museum

Today has been the best day yet. The tour visited Claflin University, South Carolina State University, and the Dr. Benjamin E Mays Museum.

Claflin University

The students were greeted to a presentation at the James and Dorothy Z Elmore Chapel at Claflin University.  Included in the presentation were former NYC Omega Black College Tour (NYCOBCT) scholars, Athena Morgan and Victoria Burke, Claflin Class of 2017 and 2018 respectively.  Victoria was one of the tour guides from Claflin.  The students loved the campus particularly the recent construction.  We returned to the chapel to learn Chaquille Mitchell, Kasey Felix, Serica Samms, and Elaina Flint were accepted onsite into Claflin University.  We are proud of our NYCOBCT scholars and congratulate them on their acceptance.  We are also grateful to Mr. Zeigler and the staff at Claflin University for being a long standing friend to NYCOBCT.

South Carolina State University

Claflin University and South Carolina State University are adjoining campuses.  We were able to quickly walk 105 people to South Carolina State University.  We heard a wonderful presentation regarding South Carolina State University.  The admissions team was joined by the brothers of  Xi Psi chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc.  The brothers served as tour guides.  They did a wonderful job of explaining what the campus has to offer.  Upon conclusion of the tour, the brothers marched the NYCOBCT scholars to the admissions office where we learned, Dayvon Alford, Mia Ayala, Kasey Felix, Ashantee Hines, Jabari M'Bhaso, Jalen Prince, Danielle Raiford, Cayla Rosaria, Ciara Stewart, and Jordan Walker were all accepted into South Carolina State University.  After celebrating this wonderful news, the brothers of Xi Psi chapter performed a "Hop" (impromptu step show) for the scholars.  We then boarded the buses for the Dr. Benjamin E. Mays Museum.

NYCOBCT were greeted by the museum's Site Director, Joseph Patton (Omega Man), Curator Loy Sartin, Willie Forest (Omega Man) and the men of Epsilon Gamma Gamma.  Each received a plaque commemorating their service to NYCOBCT.  Following the presentation the scholars were treated to a film, the original birthplace, and replica of the first school house of Dr Benjamin E. Mays.  All lead by Loy Sartin, Joseph Patton, and the brothers of Epsilon Gamma Gamma (E.G.G.).  The brothers of E.G.G. treated the scholars to a snack bag upon departure.

NYCOBCT ate at Golden Corral in Charlotte NC and settled into their hotel in Greensboro, NC.  We look forward to our school visits to Bennett College, North Carolina Agricultural & Technical State University, and Winston Salem State University visitations.
