Well day 1 is in the books. It did not come without some challenges. We were going to be an hour late for our dinner reservation. That would have meant coming up with an alternative solution. The restaurant was gracious enough to be willing to stay open an an extra hour to accommodate us. We had been in consistent communication with the establishment (which shall remain nameless) to update them on our travel status. While they agreed to accommodate us in spite of our tardiness, we experienced a different situation upon arrival. They informed us they would not be able to serve us after all. Feeling frustration boiling up within me, I realize I had to make arrangements to quickly find a location that can feed 109 people. We made a few calls and found a McDonalds, Wendy's, and Cook Out near by in close vicinity. The scholars loved the choices presented them in place of the original dinner choice. I quickly used this as a teachable moment to explain to the scholars obstacles will come your way. They sometimes do not seem fair. Our goal is to remember they are a test. Press our way through them to reach our goal.
The kids have been in there room for quite a while, the chaperons just retired (3am), and other chaperones made 107 sandwiches as part of a lunch we will have on the bus.
Parents your scholars will have their phones until about 9am, 2/15. Be sure to check in on your love one.
Tomorrow we head to Nashville, Tennessee but not before visiting YMI in Asheville NC. Continue to pray for us.
