2015 Scholar's Speak Series - Cayla Rosario
Hello, my name is Cayla Rosario. I'm a senior at the Urban Assembly School of Business for Young Women. Thank you so much for allowing me to attend this NYC Omega Black College Tour. It was truly the best experience ever! For college I intend on majoring in print and broadcast journalism, along with a dance class maybe as my minor and vocal performance lessons. I've been dancing since I was about four years old and I can't imagine going through college without having a dance class. I also love to sing so the same goes for that as well. While on this tour, I met a lot of phenomenal people, saw some amazing campuses, and received a clearer view on what I need to look for in the college I decide to attend. I really enjoyed Howard And Hampton University. Also, I received an on site acceptance to South Carolina State, and an acceptance to Tennessee through an email while on the tour. About a week after the tour, I found out I was also accepted into Clark Atlanta and Virginia State University. These four HBCU's are the only colleges I've been accepted into so far and the feeling is very exciting and overwhelming.
I was very anxious and nervous to be away from home for a week, but now I'm devastated to be back home! I had so much fun learning about each college and being on the bus was fun as well. It was never a dull moment. The bond I created with the chaperones are everlasting as well as the friendships I developed with the scholars. As soon as the first workshop began, I knew I was going to regret not knowing about the tour while I was still a junior. That is how amazing this week was for me. There are not enough words to describe how truly blessed I was to receive this opportunity. Without this scholarship, I wouldn't have been able to go. I'm depending on scholarships and financial aid just so that I am able to attend the college of my choice. I cannot thank this prestigious organization enough
